This role provides an opportunity for a governance professional to support the IHP in consideration of Plan Change 1- Housing and Business Choice which may re-think some of Ōtautahi Christchurch's planning rules.

This role is a fixed term opportunity ending by the 30th of April 2024.

About the role:


As a Hearings Advisor for the IHP, you will be a specialist in democratic processes and provide advice on process and legislative requirements.


A day in the life would look like:

  • Coordinating the scheduling for the IHP hearings and associated functions.
  • Dealing with submitters, lay and professionals.
  • Managing and publishing documents and evidence
  • Working with the wider team to ensure that the IHP have what they need.

About you:


As a member of the IHP Secretariat you'll have experience with public sector processes, excellent communication, organisational and administrative skills, and the ability to work collaboratively.

Being timeframe focused will see you use your natural intuition working to tight deadlines whilst also being agile in your approach and being able to think on your feet is a must To be successful in this this exciting role you will have:

  • Proven experience in local government or similar environment, working with commissioners, boards, or elected representatives.
  • A strong sense of integrity and confidentiality.
  • The ability to be calm under pressure and be able to relate to submitters, drawing on your strong communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, along with a solutionsfocused, cando attitude.
  • Strong organisational and computer skills.
  • And given the key nature of this role, we need someone who is a quick learning and who can hit the ground running.
Experience in a similar role is an advantage but not essential.

If you have a strong administration background combined with interpersonal skills, you will be supported by your manager to develop in the necessary areas through on the job and one on one training.
