Ko tā mātou mahi | Our Role

Our Urban Planning and Design group provides strategic leadership on urban planning, best practice urban design and planning advice, leads the management of Kāinga Ora's large scale strategic partnerships and works closely with place based groups, iwi, local and central government agencies and the private sector to facilitate urban development opportunities.

These roles are within the Groups' National Planning Team which provides dedicated resource to lead the work Kāinga Ora does nationwide.

The team leads the formulation of area specific planning and development strategies through strategic, spatial planning and regulatory activities.

Within a collaborative working environment we assess opportunities and advise how Kāinga Ora can enable sustainable and thriving communities and urban developments.

We are also responsible for supporting and guiding the place-based planning and delivery teams to ensure consistency in approach, best practise planning outcomes, expert input and cross regional learning.

With such an exciting work programme the team is growing, and as such we are now looking to welcome additional Team Leader Development Planning.

  • Indepth knowledge and demonstrated experience of spatial and regulatory planning including an understanding of the changing legislative framework
  • An understanding of the strategy to delivery process
  • Proven negotiation and mediation skills
  • Strong research and evaluation skills
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in preparing and presenting planning assessments, analysis and reports
  • Project Management skills
  • Collaborative team player approach and Team Management skills
  • Willingness to work in a dynamic, agile environment.
