The Insights Analyst is responsible for developing reporting mechanisms and analytical tools.

You will be analysing information and data resources for reporting on Defence Equipment Management Organisation' (DEMO) ongoing operations for the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF).


Duties for this role include:

  • Analysing data and identifying key insights;
  • Presenting your analysis and findings in an easy to understand format;
  • Provide formal training in a small class room environment as required; and
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to identify and implement improvements to data quality and analytic practices.
Your outputs will enable decision makers to make informed decisions on how to manage equipment across the Defence Force.

The formal title for this role within NZDF is Insights Analyst.

While you don't need to be a data analyst currently you do need some experience working with data.

Training and development support will be provided so you need to be motivated and willing to learn with an interest in developing your data analytics skills.


Ideally, you will have:

  • Good relationship management skills with the ability to understand stakeholder's needs and translate these into meaningful requests;
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to explain technical information to nontechnical audiences;
  • Experience coaching and training others;
  • Good technical ability, include experience using MS Excel and MS Office Suite, SAP BI and/or similar systems; and
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent work experience.

The Defence Equipment Management Organisation (DEMO) is responsible for providing proactive, responsive and effective strategic in-service equipment fleet management and full life-cycle integrated logistic support (ILS) advice to support delivery of the NZDF's outputs.

Our focus is on equipment and related commodities and consumables, and ensuring they are available at the right time and standard to enable the Army, Air Force and Navy to achieve the right effect.

- is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
