You will have a passion to develop a supportive learning environment for Māori students within Te Wānanga o Ngā Kete the Division of Arts, Law, Psychology and Social Sciences (ALPSS). You will be excited to improve the retention, achievement and programme completions of our Māori students by providing support services and implementing initiatives.

You will work collaboratively within our Division student services, Te Puna Tautoko and the wider University student support network to support Māori students to navigate and successfully access support as required. Identify and report barriers of engagement and learning for Māori students in ALPSS to Māori Student Success - Senior Advisor. This role requires you to be onsite in the ALPSS Division on our Hillcrest Campus to ensure you are accessible and visible to our students.

Salary will be in the range of $66,698 to $79,256 per year pro rata based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position. This is a part time role for 16.5 hours a week with the exact times and days to be negotiated on appointment.

Ko wai koe? - Who are you?

It is essential that you have a sound understanding of Te Reo Māori and Māori Tikanga and an understanding of Māori students' needs while working closely with Māori students and staff. Your fluency in Te Reo Māori and experience of bi/cross-cultural processes is essentially in optimising student support systems and initiatives. You will have previous experience in developing strategic initiatives and have established relationships with Māori organisations.

Ideally it would be preferred if you had previous experience in student support, tertiary education or other relevant fields but this is not essential. You will be a clear and confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as within a team environment.

The Division also contains two research institutes: Te Ngira the Institute for Population Research (IPR) and Te Puna Haumaru the New Zealand Institute for Security and Crime Science (NZISCS).
