The Timaru District Council aims to enable democratic local decision-making and action by, and on behalf of communities, to promote the social, economic, environmental, and cultural well-being of its communities in the present and for the future.

With around 400 staff, there are a diverse range of roles from front-facing community to support and technical specialists.

The role
Timaru District Council is looking for an enthusiastic individual to help us deliver long-term asset improvement strategies for our District's stormwater systems


Working as the Stormwater Engineer will put you at the forefront of the creation and ongoing operation of our community's critical infrastructure, with a direct influence on the form and shape of our urban environment.

The Stormwater Engineer will be involved in stormwater management planning, consultation, and implementing the stormwater capital expenditure programme.


You will play a key role in providing technical expertise for the planning and implementation of best-practice stormwater management systems and work within a multi-disciplinary team of like-minded professionals.


We need someone who can do the following:

  • Work on a range of varied stormwater projects, especially water-sensitive urban design
  • Be a selfstarter with great ideas and an enquiring mind who enjoys seeking innovative solutions
  • Communicate well, manage their time, and provide a good eye for detail
  • Bring a recognised engineering qualification to the role and experience in the provision of utilities infrastructure and network systems
  • An understanding of watersensitive urban design, construction and maintenance, and asset management principles and practice is desirable
