  • Eightday roster, two 12hour day shifts, then two 12hour night shifts followed by four days off
  • Six weeks of training followed by intensive mentoring and support, NZQA qualifications


The training salary is $60, 512.12, increasing to $72,614.54 upon successfully completing training and assessment (usually within 12 months).The role commences with an induction day on Friday 2 August 2024, followed by a training course commencing from Monday 5 August 2024.

The first week of training will be held at the Fire and Emergency New Zealand National Training Centre in Rotorua, followed by three weeks training at the Central Communications Centre in Wellington.

  • Good geographic knowledge of New Zealand
  • Proven ability to work constructively and cooperatively within a team environment.
  • Touch type quickly and accurately while listening to callers (45wpm minimum)
  • Have empathy with callers who may be distressed
  • Control stressful situations in a calm and concise manner
  • Dispatch and maintain communications with multiple resources at incidents
  • Perform a variety of support duties related to emergency and nonemergency events
  • Have a high degree of situational awareness
  • Work a variety of rostered shifts, including days, nights, weekends and public holidays
Dispatchers operate in a 24/7 Emergency Service environment.

Working in a small, close-knit team, your primary responsibility will be receiving emergency 111 and non-emergency calls and dispatching appropriate Fire and Emergency responses.

You will have daily contact with a wide range of people, including members of the public, firefighters, other emergency services and government agencies.

We seek Dispatchers to join our Communication Centres in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch. These are full-time permanent positions and include the opportunity for paid overtime after initial training and assessment.
