  • Permanent Anatomical Pathology Registrar
  • Starting 27 January 202
  • The positions rotate between Wellington and Hutt Hospitals
  • All rotations are Category F, weekdays 8 to 5 pm with no on call.


Pathology Registrars are employed by Capital Coast and Hutt Valley with their day to day work directed and supervised by Awanui Laboratory.

This position is recognised as a training position by the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.

The Wellington Region RMO positions are rotational across multiple hospitals, including Wellington Regional and Hutt Valley Hospitals which means that you may rotate to these sites during your time with us.


RMO salaries are calculated based on relevant previous years of experience and the average weekly hours of work as set out in the relevant run description.

For the current salary bands, please refer to either the Specialty Trainees of New Zealand (SToNZ) or Resident Doctors - Association (RDA) Single-Employer Collective Agreements.

Join our fellow 615+ Resident Medical Officers employed by the areas of the Wellington Region (Capital & Coast, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa Districts) to gain leading experience, medical supervision and training.


WELLINGTON SCL


WSCL is part of one of New Zealand - s largest laboratories, and services Wellington Kenepuru, Hutt, and Wairarapa Hospitals, and the Wellington/Wairarapa/Hutt communities.

Close ties are maintained with the University of Otago, Wellington. Trainees may also be rotated to Hutt Hospital.

Training positions are available at all levels in Anatomic Pathology. Enquiries from trainees in Haematology, Chemical Pathology, Microbiology, Infectious diseases and immunology are also welcome. All positions are recognised as training positions by the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.

Awanui Pathology:

  • Is a friendly and enthusiastic team.
  • Has weekly formal training.
  • Ensures all registrars have specimens doubleheaded with a consultant and has relatively few hours of cut up
  • Encourages innovative ideas and supportive of personal development.
A lot of time is spent individually tutoring new trainees in both cut up and microscopy. There is a weekly 4 hour training programme, and good access to College training courses. For more information come and visit us and find out what it is about. We also have great research opportunities.

Pathology registrars may undertake or participate in research projects approved by the appropriate ethics committee.
