Would you like to be a key player in the future provision of our City's parks and recreation facilities?

We are seeking a motivated individual with lots of initiative to plan for the provision and management of parks throughout Christchurch and Banks Peninsula with a particular focus on:

  • Recreation opportunities including play spaces and walkways
  • Outdoor sports facilities
  • Facilitating community activities including leases on parks


Your experience and knowledge in parks and recreation planning will contribute to enhancing a wide variety of recreational assets across the more than 1300 parks dotted throughout the city.


You will:

  • Provide planning and advice for the provision of recreation and community use opportunities that are sustainable, meet community needs and outcomes, and enhance the key values of the City's parks
  • Prepare plans for the City's parks, including management, landscape, and development plans
  • Plan for and support delivery of capital development and renewal projects
  • Facilitate community use and occupation of parks such as leases
  • Have input into Council planning documents such as strategic plans, Activity Plans, and policies


You'll have variety in your day-to-day activities working alongside community stakeholders, leading project teams, and planning for the capital programme.

As an enthusiastic team player, you'll provide technical and professional advice to other Parks staff and Council units as well as external stakeholders.


There will be opportunities to upskill both in-house and with involvement in industry led training opportunities to keep up to date and research national and international trends that influence park outcomes.

  • This position is primarily based at Te Hononga Civic Offices, 53 Hereford Street, Christchurch.
