This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Health and Safety Manager or an industry expert looking to transition, to join Mercury looking after our Hydro business area.

This is a fast paced environment where you will be working at a variety of locations along the Waikato te awa in complex & high risk environments.

The role provides support for Mercury's Hydro business area, across nine Generating sites. You have the lifestyle choice of being based in either Hamilton, Taupō, Rotorua or the wider Waikato region.


You'll be working as part of a team that ensures that the safety needs of respective sites are achieved, whilst also ensuring the objectives of business operations are realised in line with our governance standards and values.

You will be instrumental in providing leadership, assistance and guidance across our sites.


There is opportunity to also work cross functionally with the Health & Safety team gaining exposure to Mercury other generation assets like geothermal & wind.


We are looking for:

  • Five years Health and Safety management or equivalent industry technical experience (some MHF/Electricity industry experience is preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills with the proven ability to build and maintain enduring professional relationships
  • Understanding of current Health and Safety legislation
  • Experience conducting investigations utilising a variety of methods like Learning Teams & ICAMs
  • Proven leadership capability in implementing contemporary safety models, systems and processes with the ability to lead and deliver safety culture initiatives
  • Clean full drivers licence
