Te tūranga - The role
This role is located within the Financial Stability Assessment and Strategy Directorate. The Stress Testing team is responsible for delivering a multiyear stress testing programme. Stress tests assess the resilience of regulated entities, and the financial system, to severe but plausible shocks. Stress testing helps build understanding and the capability to monitor and manage risks to financial stability.

We need to consider a broad range of risks - credit, insurance, climate, cyber, operational, liquidity, pandemic, seismic - to the financial system.

The Adviser plays a lead role in overseeing and delivering stress tests.

This is done through careful planning, detailed scenario design, comprehensive engagement with entities, in-depth desktop modelling and analysis and drafting of technical but accessible reports.

The Adviser will sit in the insurance side of the team.

Some of your other responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring stress tests are aligned to significant financial stability risks and the RBNZ's strategic direction.
  • Ensuring practical and effective recommendations from stress testing activity supports the RBNZ and industries' understanding and ability to manage risks.
  • Ensuring stress testing processes and capabilities reflect global good practice.
  • Motivating, leading and developing the team to perform at their best.
  • Foster a work environment that is inclusive, safe, trusted and equitable.

You'll have:

  • Significant experience in stress testing, risk modelling, working either in a frontline supervisory/regulatory roles, consulting or risk management.
  • Proven leadership experience building, fostering, and enabling a motivated, high performing, collaborative, inclusive and diverse team culture.
  • The ability to provide intellectual and organisational leadership and to develop a broad range of knowledge and skills across a range of specialisations relevant to the team.
  • Understanding of the banking and/or insurance sectors.
  • Proven relationship management experience at all levels across a broad range of stakeholders, with the ability to tailor approach to meet different stakeholders' requirements.
