Health and Safety Manager Position

The Human Resources Department under the direction of the Director of Temporal Affairs is seeking a Health and Safety Manager to be based at the Pacific Area Office, Auckland, New Zealand. This is a permanent full-time position.

  1. A senior-level safety specialist who is responsible for developing and supporting safety, health, and environmental programs for the Pacific Area.
  2. Responsible for assessing risk, developing responses, and assisting line management in the implementation of processes and programs.
  3. Incumbents work closely with Risk Management to ensure compliance with local regulatory organizations and provides a single point of contact for coordination of all safety, health, environmental, and disaster recovery activities.
  4. Coordinates with department and government agencies for Health and Safety compliance in all regions across the Pacific Area.
  5. Assesses risk hazards and loss exposure, develops responses, and supports line management in implementation of processes and programs.
  6. Efforts see reduction of accident, illness, and injury occurring on Church property or at sponsored activities.
  7. Implement new and evaluate effectiveness of existing health and safety programs.
  8. Support and develop safety, health, environmental, and emergency planning strategies.
  9. Responds to everyday emergencies for management, employees, missionaries, members, patrons & visitors.
  10. Coordinates all safety, health, environmental and disaster recovery activities.
  11. Gathers information, data and results and make reports and presentations to Directors and Board Members.

Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering or equivalent preferred, or working towards Degree or Certification can be considered. Excellent Communication and Customer Service skills. Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Safety Professional, or equivalent credentials preferred. A knowledge of Church organization and how to effectively work with different departments, divisions, and other stakeholders both in Area and at Church HQs would be helpful. 5+ years of robust and proven work experience in development and management of safety, health, and environmental programs. Ability to Coach, train and work with all categories of people – management, employees, volunteers.
