This vacancy is open to either experienced Band 8a or Band 7 as a development post with appropriate Job Description and banding being applied accordingly to the successful candidate. Successful candidates who are Band 7 will be expected to work towards the competencies of the higher band within an agreed time frame; being regraded to the 8a role upon successful completion.

We are looking for a compassionate psychologist (clinical/counselling/forensic) to join us at Durham and Darlington Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) Crisis Team. The post would suit an enthusiastic Psychologist, valuing the opportunity to work collaboratively with members of an innovative and developing multi-disciplinary team, with significant opportunities to develop the role of psychology in older adult crisis care. A key part of this role will be using clinical leadership skills to influence teams to embed formulations, psychological understanding, and psychosocial interventions in everyday practice. There are significant opportunities to support workforce development through supervision and training, as part of an embedded trauma-informed care approach.

The salary is dependent upon experience, we are keen to hear from those interesting in either a Band 8a post, or Band 7-8a preceptorship. A structured job plan will be developed collaboratively to support this.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide specialist psychological assessments, formulation and therapies and be part of an MDT approach. Alongside direct clinical work, providing consultation, training, and clinical supervision to other team members as well as trainee and assistant psychologists are integral to the role.

The post holder may have to travel across the locality as required, therefore transport is essential. The post holder will holdand will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.

As a service, we are keen to support and invest in the ongoing development of our Psychologists through CPD opportunities, so an interest in developing clinical skills across a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches is essential. The Psychologist would have the opportunity to gain experience working with a diverse population, providing brief, crisis-orientated psychological interventions for those experiencing increased acuity of need or risk due to the impact of dementia, frailty and/or functional mental health needs. The successful applicant will have opportunity to specialise in an area of interest.

In addition to being part of an MDT, MHSOP offers the opportunity to be part of a psychology team. In addition to our clinical work there are opportunities to engage in research projects and the department has strong links with the Teesside Doctoral training course with regular opportunities to work with core, specialist and research trainees.

About us

As a service we are responsive to the wellbeing of our team, and place a strong emphasis on self-care and supporting one another. This means there are clear job plans and people are encouraged to maintain a work/ life balance. We pride ourselves in building a positive working atmosphere and opportunities for development mean we have a proven track record of retaining staff within the team. In addition to this, flexible working and working from home can be negotiated with the successful applicant.
