Mō tātou, ā, mō kā uri ā muri ake nei - for us and our children after us.

Kia ora

Do you have a passion for conservation and animal welfare?

Ngāi Tahu Tourism is one of the largest tourism operators in Aotearoa and we are seeking for a Kiwi Keeper to join our dedicated kiwi team at the National Kiwi Hatchery.

The National Kiwi Hatchery is the largest and most successful hatchery - having hatched over 2,400 kiwi chicks since 1995, with an average hatch success of 95%.

We also play an important part in helping with kiwi research and are a centre of excellence for juvenile kiwi research and scientific data collation.

The National Kiwi Hatchery is open to manuhiri (visitors) allowing us to advocate kiwi conservation.

We take great pride in warmly welcoming manuhiri (visitors) to our experiences. Manaakitanga (hospitality) is one of the core values that drives the way we do business. As hosts, we care for our customers and our team as our own whānau.

A little bit about you

We are seeking an individual who:

  • Has previous experience and knowledge of avian health and conservation
  • Enjoys participating and collaborating with other team members
  • Keeps cool under pressure
  • Has the ability and willingness to work shifts on weekdays, weekends and public holidays
  • Anything could happen in a day and we need someone who isn't afraid of a long and varied todo list
If "Kia ora and welcome to the National Kiwi Hatchery" rolls off your tongue, get in touch

The successful applicant will have an affinity for the needs and aspirations of our ultimate stakeholders, Ngāi Tahu whānui.

Alongside this, they will have an understanding of, or an eagerness to learn and engage with our Ngāi Tahu values and te reo Māori.

Ka tika

The National Kiwi Hatchery is a fun, unique and safe place to work and we'd like to keep it that way.

Before starting with us, you'll go through a range of checks, including drug and alcohol testing.

Health and safety is super important and this is part of how we keep you, our team and our customers safe.

Looking to find out a little bit more about us?

Our purpose is to make the connection - with our customers, through our people, to our place and to Ngāi Tahu.
