Te Whatu Ora – Te Tai Tokerau (formerly Northland District Health Board) provides public health services across the Northland region, from north of Wellsford to Cape Reinga serving a growing population of 190,000. Whangārei Hospital is the largest hospital in Northland providing secondary care services, supported by three rural hospitals in Kaitaia; Kawakawa, and Dargaville.

We are looking for a skilled SMO to provide safe, efficient and effective urology services to the Northland community. This role is pre-dominantly based in Whangārei however does include occasional travel to rural areas including Kaitaia Hospital on a rostered basis. There is an on-call roster split between consultants and you will also need to participate in the supervision and teaching of resident medical officers within the urology service.

Whangārei Hospital is the largest hospital in Northland providing secondary care services, supported by three regional hospitals in Kaitaia; Kawakawa, and Dargaville. Northland covers an area of 12,600 square kilometres with a growing population of more than 190,000. It boasts some of the most scenic and exciting coastal areas of New Zealand in a subtropical climate. Whangārei is a 25-minute flight or 2-hour drive from Auckland City.
