About the role
Work collaboratively with and support the Cemeteries Leader with the operation and management of all council owned Cemeteries within the Gisborne District.
The Cemeteries Officer will support with performing burial operations, providing information, completing transactions, updating cemetery records with 100% accuracy, updating Standard Operating Procedures, and responding to customer service requests as the first point of contact for cemetery enquires.
Reporting to the Cemeteries Leader your role will be field, and office based, working in the greater team of three people.
You'll recognise the importance of the role as a Treaty partner and understand how that underpins Council's work.
Duties include:
- Support in the preparation of graves and burial operations ensuring accordance with Council's Bylaw and procedures
- Ensure all information systems for providing information to customers is kept current, accurate and accessible
- Upload and document cemetery records in both manual and digital systems
- Provide a high level of customer service to customers and other stakeholders, ensuring this is done in a timely and sensitive way
Skills & experience
- Effective communication and empathy skills
- A high level of enthusiasm, energy and integrity
- Experience with equipment and machinery, including maintenance and operation
- Be physically fit and able
- Ability to work under pressure and handle sensitive situations
- Be skilled and confident working with computers and database programmes
