We have a full-time permanent position (40 hours/week) available for a highly motivated experienced nurse with paediatric cardiac experience to join the team as a Nurse Practitioner Intern.


In this role the Nurse Practitioner Intern will complete the Nurse Practitioner Training Programme (NPTP) in conjunction with their current role.

On completion and qualifying as a Nurse Practiotioner, they will practise both independently and in collaboration with other health care professionals to promote health, prevent disease and to diagnose, assess and manage our tamariki's health needs.


The Nurse Practitioner will provide a wide range of assessments and treatments interventions, including differential diagnoses, ordering, conducting and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests, and administering therapies for the management of actual or potential health needs.

The Nurse Practitioner will work in partnership with individuals, families, whānau and communities across a wide range of settings.

As a senior nurse you will also provide nursing leadership, quality initiatives and contribute to service and directorate development.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills
We are seeking a nurse with the following essential skills:

  • At least 8 years' experience with at least 3 years in a paediatric cardiac setting
  • Registration with Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ)
  • A current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) or in the late stages of obtaining your registration if overseas
  • Meets the requirements to enrol in the Nurse Practitioner Training Programme in NZ
  • Demonstrate alignment with Te Toka Tumai values

The Nurse Practitioner/ Specialist (Nurse Practitioner Intern) will join the multidisciplinary Paediatric and Congenital Cardiac Service team.

We are the sole provider of cardiology and cardiac surgical services for infants and children with congenital and acquired heart disease in New Zealand and parts of the Pacific Basin.

We provide cardiac care across the life spectrum with a fetal cardiology service through to care of those born with congenital heart diseases who are now adults (ACHD).

Continued diagnosis and treatment improvements mean our patient population is growing and with it, our service.
