About the role:

We have a rare opportunity for an Energy Analyst to join our Wholesale Markets team in Auckland.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a fascinating, complex part of our business that manages our current and future electricity portfolio, carbon obligations, and diversified fuel types - gas, oil and LPG.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead analysis to help optimise the Genesis generation, fuel utilisation, and sale mix.
• Lead the modelling and adhoc analysis on the various markets, with particular regard to Genesis' portfolio and impacts of changes to hydrology, outages, fuels, regulation, policy and financial contracts to understand the financial risks and opportunities for Genesis.
• Run the future market modelling that feeds into the main company financial forecasting process.
• Develop and maintain models to ensure that they provide accurate, consistent, and timely analysis. Ensure Genesis has current and robust information available to support its analysis and decisionmaking.
• Use models effectively to depict simplified views of complexity and uncertainty. Use results, trends, and insights to inform and support decisionmaking across Wholesale Markets and the wider business.
• Identify, manage, and monitor market risks, including keeping abreast of industry developments and regulatory change.
• Work with, explore, and manipulate large datasets to understand energy market behaviour.
• Provide detailed analysis, forecasts, and expert advice to the Generation and Wholesale teams to ensure that the generation offer strategy and the trading of hedge products are optimised and priced appropriately.
• Work closely with the trading and fuels teams and the management to understand the complete portfolio structure and then be in a position to provide analytical and insight expertise.

About you:

• Minimum 3+ years analytical experience, within quantitative financial & commercial and /or analytical role. (Prior Energy experience is preferred).
• A degree qualification in a quantitative discipline e.g., Engineering, Science, Mathematics IT combined with commercial discipline
• Finance, Economics, Accounting.
• Intermediate/advanced Excel and skills in one or more of the following: Power BI, R, SQL, Python.
• A commercial and businessoriented mindset.
• Proven track record of experience and achievement in a quantitative financial and commercial and/or analytical role, using complex information.
• Extensive experience working with and a high degree of comfort with large datasets.
• Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret complex problems and use critical thinking in developing a range of options/solutions.
