The primary function of this role is to lead a consistent organisation-wide response around Workplace Violence and Aggression Prevention (WVP).The secondary functions of this role are to provide consultation and training to clinical and non-clinical workers around assessment and implementation of appropriate departmental strategies, processes and procedures relating to Workplace Violence and Aggression Prevention.


  • Contribute to the reduction in workplace harm incidence, including injury lost time and duration
  • Contribute to the national programmes of work to prevent, minimise and mitigate violence at work
  • Lead and deliver the Violence at Work Programme (locally) within the District and collaborate with and support others (nationally) across the organisation
  • Conduct Workplace observations and risk assessments
  • Support staff to put in place risk mitigation in line with the national guidance and standards
  • Support the development and implementation of Violence at Work initiatives and programmes in consultation with stakeholders (procedures, process, guidance and tools)
  • Lead and deliver the Communication and Deescalation Intervention Training alongside the Security Safety Intervention Trainer
  • Liaise and partner with other Te Whatu Ora Workplace Violence Prevention Advisors and trainers
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to support the development of staff in practices that prevent, mitigate or manage violence at work
  • Review and/or provide advice and support to managers and staff on Violence at Work
  • Support frontline teams with hands on training and development initiatives
  • Triage incidents/near misses, monitoring quality of reporting, monitoring action completions and closing out
  • Work with Patient Quality and Security to ensure all Violence at Work events are captured
  • Promote a proactive health and safety culture across the organisation
  • Support the administration of the Worker Participation Framework
  • Serious Event Response and Investigations
  • Support managers to conduct simple investigations and ensure appropriate corrective actions are identified, assigned and completed

Ko wai koe | About You
You will be passionate about building organisational capability.

You will build an organisation-wide response around Workplace Violence and Aggression Prevention (WVP).You understand strategy and how to engage, influence and deliver outcomes throughout teams within a complex, fast paced and ever-changing environment.

it is expected the person will have the following proven capabilities:

  • Technical health and safety competence
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and audit standards
  • Computer literate, competent in the use of the Microsoft Suite including; Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management and the ability to selfmanage
  • Skilled at understanding complex information
  • Able to work independently and in a team
  • At least six years in a health and safety advisor role or in a clinical role that has experience in H&S and prevention, mitigation and management of Violence at Work
  • Coaching of team members and managers
  • Experience in event investigation and causal analysis
  • Experience facilitating and presenting to groups
  • Experience with conducting and facilitating risk assessments
  • Level 6 qualification or equivalent in health and safety
