We're seeking a talented, gutsy newsroom leader who can ensure our audiences enjoy an unmissable and unrivalled mix of great journalism each day, with a strong focus on live, breaking, and Kiwi-as content.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee a team of editors and reporters to drive Stuff's daily news gathering.
- Ensure the delivery of lively, relatable stories, across a range of formats, that meet audience needs and goals.
- Use data to drive decisionmaking and content strategy.
- Collaborate closely with the Stuff Digital SLT, Planning Editor, and National & Indepth Editor.
- Champion creativity and experimentation in news delivery.
- Maintain high standards in editing stories and multimedia content.
- Innovate continuously to stay at the forefront of digital storytelling techniques.
- Uphold Stuff's Editorial Code of Ethics and Practice, company charter, and Pou Tiaki commitments.
Essential Duties:
- Manage a team of Daily News Editors.
- Ensure timely and effective national news flow across all platforms.
- Actively break original content informed by audience metrics.
- Oversee daily content output and ensure it meets platform demands.
- Identify and lead projects to increase engagement and showcase top journalism.
- Edit and subedit stories to the highest standard.
- Serve as duty editor during key shifts.
- Support the EditorinChief as appropriate.
- Foster a highperformance team proficient in digital, audio, and video storytelling.
- Engage with audiences to ensure strong connections with Stuff and its activities.
- Promote and integrate content into social platforms and products like Neighbourly.
- Attend outside events as a representative of the company when required.
Requirements:
- Strong editorial experience and a keen understanding of various storytelling formats.
- Proven ability to innovate and lead a team in a fastpaced news environment.
- Excellent communication skills and a commitment to ethical journalism.
- Ability to manage legal risks and complaints effectively.
- Engagement in Stuff's social strategy and support for membership growth.
