CADS (Community Alcohol and Drug Service) has recently taken up Smokefree service to help Aotearoa achieve its Smokefree 2025 Action Plan.

CADS is the largest Alcohol and other Drugs (AOD) service in New Zealand working with over 15,000 people each year.

CADS is committed to empowering the community and promoting recovery and wellbeing.


Our Smokefree Service aims to provide a supportive service that is personalised and aligned to the needs and goals of our people, and their own Smokefree journey.


The opportunity:

Our Smokefree Practitioners will support staff and patients in Waitakere and North Shore Hospitals in the on-going delivery of a high-quality evidence-based Smokefree


You will need to be passionate about Māori and Pasifika tangata whaiora, pregnant women as they will be a top priority.

You will need to have great relationship building and networking skills as you will be collaborating within your team and with other Smokefree coordinators to provide continuity of care and support across the district.


This is an exciting opportunity to become a full time or part-time Smokefree Practitioner and join our awesome team to help us re-establish and create the best Smokefree service possible for the Waitematā district.

The role(s) will be based at the North Shore Hospital, Waitakere Hospital and CADS - Pitman House.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for people with a genuine commitment to the community we serve and a passion for helping our whānau and Waitematā achieve our Smokefree aims.

You will be self-motivated, reliable, able to work autonomously, a team player with great collaboration skills and a 'can do attitude'.


As a Smokefree Practitioner, you will be able to motivate and empower people from all backgrounds and support them to achieve their smokefree goals.

You will be required to work with a wide variety of healthcare professionals and providers to improve the reach and delivery of Smokefree services.

Ideally, you will have had experience working within community, primary and secondary health settings and experience in smokefree practice and will be philosophically aligned to our Te Whatu Ora, Waitematā values.


Essential:

  • Recognised tertiary health qualification
  • Knowledge of population health issues and their relation to the individual and whānau
  • Previous experience working with multicultural patients
  • An empathetic, caring, patient nature and a strong ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds
  • A strong desire to achieve the best health outcomes for our community and whānau
  • Training in coaching or counselling of wellbeing, behavioural change or addiction

Desired:

  • Smoking cessation experience or ability to learn and develop
  • Experience in a community, primary or secondary clinical setting
