It has a history of scientific and clinical excellence and provides local, regional and national services in Anatomical, Clinical and Forensic Pathology as well as services to the Pacific Islands.
We offer an extensive analytical pathology service in Chemical Pathology, Haematology, Microbiology, Virology and Immunology, National Testing Centre for Newborn Screening, Forensic Pathology, Anatomical Pathology and Diagnostic Genetics.

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our Molecular Genetics team as a Section Leader.
The Molecular Genetics team provides the inherited genetics service for the greater Auckland region and beyond. The team specialises in the inherited causes of cancer, diabetes, cardiac diseases as well as metabolic and neurological disorders. They work in a dynamic environment with close clinical interaction, and new test development is always in the pipeline.In this role, you will use your expertise to mentor lab staff and develop new diagnostic services as well as help deliver our routine service using a wide array of molecular techniques available in our laboratory.
This is a key role for the department and will be supported by the Technical Head of Diagnostic Genetics.The Diagnostic Genetics laboratory provides a comprehensive service using both cytogenetic and molecular genetics techniques enabling us to resolve clinical diagnoses with a genetic component.
We analyse pre and post-natal samples, providing diagnostic and predictive testing for a wide spectrum of inherited and acquired disorders.
Our portfolio of tests is constantly being upgraded with a view to reducing turnaround times and enhancing our tests to take into account new approaches and international clinical and research data.

- Have experience with Next Generation Sequencing, variant curation and a comprehensive knowledge of the ACMG guidelines
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Adaptive nature to thrive in highly dynamic team
- Experience in providing training and mentoring
- Good knowledge of the ISO15189 standards.
