Te Wānanga o Aotearoa is dedicated to providing memorable experiences for tamariki and whānau by offering quality holistic educational opportunities utilising interactive learning.

We are seeking an experienced cook to prepare and deliver a nutritious & healthy range of dietary requirements for our Puna Reo

About the role:


The primary function of the Kaitautoko is to prepare and cook well-balanced and nutritious meals from a children's menu for morning snacks, lunch and afternoon snacks for our tamariki and to maintain a high standard of cleanliness in the kitchen.


At times incumbents may be required to assist on the floor where tamariki and kaiako ratios are insufficient to meet Puna requirements.


About you - you'll have:

  • A Certificate in Food and Beverage Service (Level 3) or related field and a Food Safety certificate
  • A sound understanding of nutritional needs for tamariki 3 month to 5 years old
  • The ability to cook child portion meals and snacks daily.
  • Knowledge of the Food Act 2014 and National Programme
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in a commercial kitchen
  • A Full NZ Drivers Licence (Class 1)


A sound understanding of te reo Māori phrases, mihi and greetings and of Māori values, culture and tikanga would be an advantage.

**The ELC cook role is classed as a Core Worker and will need to pass a safety check under the Children's Act 2014.

**The role does involve some lifting, bending and standing for long periods.
