Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity


In collaboration with your MDT you will assist with making prompt and confident decisions about the best pathways for people who would benefit from psychological assessment or therapy.

You would have oversight of the team's short term care pathway (STCP), co-ordinating an optimal flow of clients through this facility.

You would maintain a small caseload of individual and group clients identified as needing some timely psychology input via the STCP.

You would also filter out those clients most suited for referral to The Psychology Centre, as most suited for input from intern psychologists, or where packages of care to external providers are indicated.


  • You would be a clinician who takes satisfaction from expediently connecting people in distress to the right kind of help, preventing further deterioration in their wellbeing or social status.
  • Consultancy, liaison and advice are key components to this role so you would want to have good written and verbal communications skills and the ability to form mutually respectful relationships.

Mōu | About you

  • The successful applicant would be familiar with assessing and treating a wide range of mental health disorders, will have some skill with differential diagnosis, and possess knowledge around best practice, evidencebased psychological approaches. We are looking for someone who can provide a range of interventions both on a onetoone and group basis and who is up to date with current clinical practice in psychology. A good understanding and awareness of psychology provision within private practice, via PHOs and NGOs and through publicly funded organisations outside of TWO is desirable. You will also need to be registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board.

  • The Triage service provides a single point of entry for nonurgent referrals to adult mental health between 8am to 4.30pm, 6 days a week.
  • The service undertakes initial screening and assessment (telephone or facetoface) of referrals to ascertain whether a comprehensive assessment is indicated within the community mental health service; or alternatively, to provide appropriate advice &/or facilitate an assisted referral to another service provider, such as a community based Non-Government Organisations (NGO's).
  • The Mental Health and Addictions service deliver a variety of services across the Waikato region.
