As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be expected to take a leading role in the development of quality Gentrack products by sharing knowledge and mentoring team members and other developers across teams in best coding practice. Leading by example in the pursuit of excellence in all areas is fundamental to this role.

Your success will be reflected by:

  • Ability to take on mainstream tasks within the scrum team and to proactively acquire the product and technical knowledge necessary to deliver your contributions.
  • Active participation in all aspects of Agile software development. Including:
    • Punctual and reliable attendance at all team meetings including daily stand ups.
    • Clear communication of what you have done since the last stand up and what you are planning today.
    • Clear communication to your team about any obstacles or blockers.
    • Regular input/contribution is provided at task planning sessions.
    • Task planning activities fit well to the actual work required to complete a story; i.e. individual activity is in line with the task board.
    • Active involvement in grooming of the backlog.
    • Emphasis on the importance of team play, made evident by interactions with team members and the wider company with positive relationships as a result.
    • Being part of the operational team that supports the software you have built running in the cloud
  • The successful delivery of software from your team to customers
  • Feedback on the quality and quantity of your technical outputs from your team, technical reviewers, Leads and Managers.
  • Feedback from staff you are mentoring
  • Successfully implementing improvements to practice and process.
  • Support initiatives run by the GSTF and demonstrate our company values by providing a clear commitment to environmental and social responsibility.
  • Contribute through identifying/proposing local sustainable practices and ideas in accordance with our Sustainability Charter.
  • Utilise our sustainability app by taking part in challenges and improving behaviours to be more sustainable.

The Specifics

  • Developing and maintaining software as part of a self-organising, multi-disciplined scrum team
  • Testing and creating automated tests for software
  • Documenting code and product features
  • Participating in planning, stand-ups, estimation, retrospectives and backlog grooming as appropriate.
  • Invest in personal training and development to maintain and advance your performance overtime.
  • Support Operational activities for our deployed solutions in line with You Build It You Run It
  • Assist and support Product Developments Services by effectively handing assigned service requests and defects for customers both internal and external.
  • Manage and prioritise customer requests in an effective and sustained manner that builds and strengthens customer relationships.
  • To abide to the Compliance Policies and Procedures of the Company.
  • Take reasonable care of your own and other people's Health & Safety in the workplace.
  • Report all incidents and hazards in your work or in your work environment that may be putting your or anyone else's Health & Safety at risk promptly.
  • In addition to this you are required to carry out any other duties as reasonably requested by your direct line leader.

What we're looking for (you don't need to be a guru at all, we're looking forward to coaching and collaborating with you):

  • 5+ years Commercial Software Development Experience
  • Working Knowledge of Agile
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant technologies and concepts including Object Orientated Design, Enterprise Database, AWS, C#/.NET experience, GIT, Web Services, CRM, Utilities industry.
  • An optimistic outlook on life, common sense and a sense of humour are essential A passion for excellence and a commitment to be the best.
  • High levels of energy, sound judgement and determination to achieve with a sense of urgency.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills.
  • An open minded consultative approach.
  • Ability to give and receive positive and constructive feedback.
  • Ability to creatively solve problems.
  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, Science, Software Engineering or comparable professional development and commercial experience.
