About the position
This position exists to provide a comprehensive Occupational Therapy Assistance service to Te Whatu Ora Tairawhiti

ROLE PURPOSE


The casual Occupational Therapy Assistant is responsible for providing support to the Te Whatu OraTairawhiti Occupational Therapy Team by delivering effective, efficient and quality patient focused care within community and inpatient services, ensuring the promotion of good health and independence for the Tairawhiti population.


The position is will provide cover for the current Occupational Therapy assistances and our store person over periods of planned and unplanned leave.

With this being a causal post an ability to be flexible is key, we will endeavour to give the person in this role notice of planned leave, but with the prevalence of sickness eg COVID you could be contacted the day of need.


The role is based in the occupational therapy department but travel throughout the district is necessary to fulfil the position criteria.

Assistants work under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist and have a range of jobs including:

  • Washing and cleaning short-term equipment
  • this includes toilet frames, shower stools commode
  • Completing audits of stocks
  • Collecting equipment from the store for therapist
  • Home visits to swap over equipment
  • Admin tasks
  • Photocopying, filing etc
  • Load vehicles for therapist
  • Taking wheelchairs for services

We are looking for someone, ideally with experience in health care with good personal fitness and excellent communication skills, verbally and written.

Someone who is able to work in a team and autonomously - on their own initiative.

The remuneration range for this role is $51820 to $ 62154 and is covered by the collective agreement: PSA Allied MECA Allied, Public Health & Technical

Essential skills to bring would include:

  • Have an appropriate level of physical fitness to be able to complete tasks associated with the position
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Have good administrative, literacy and computer skills
  • Full, clean current drivers licence must be able to drive a manual vehicle
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Problem solving skills and a high level of initiative
  • Be able to work as part of a team
  • Basic knowledge of occupational therapy treatments
  • Be able to maintain confidentiality and use discretion
  • Be able to relate well to professional and managerial staff

Desirable:

  • Basic knowledge of the roles and functions within the multidisciplinary team
  • Basic medical knowledge
