Education Support Worker (Early Childcare Education)

Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education operate two centres forthe delivery of early childhood education.There is our preschool at our Auckland campus and an Early Years Whānau Centreat our campus in Christchurch.

At both centres we provide programmes that encourage language acquisition,inclusion and development and offer a place of support for parents and whānau;a caring and welcoming learning environment and time to form relationships,support each other and identify the resources to meet specific needs.

THE ROLE/ TE MAHI

We have a fixed term (July December 2024), part-time Education Support Worker (ECE)role. The role is 15 hours per week - days and hours are negotiable with the possibility of additional hours being offered. This role is based at our preschool in our Auckland campus in Kelston.

This role works in partnership with ECE Teachers of Deaf and Teacher Aides to promote the learning and wellbeing of Deaf/Hard of Hearingpreschool learners, siblings, Children of Deaf Adults (CODA) and communityenrolments by providing practical learning support. This requires working in thepreschool context, tailoring and implementing programmes according to the needsof the individual students based on Te Whāriki curriculum.

There may be arequirement to be a relief van driver or have flexibility within the hours –this will be negotiated if required by the team.

YOU WILL /KA MAHI KOE:

  • Have an excellent way or working withpreschool children in an energetic, flexible and approachable manner
  • Support students with learning in aplay-based way, emphasising language and communication development of thelearners
  • Be a NZSL user with an excellentunderstanding of Deaf cultural ways of being
  • Assist the Teachers with student'semotional, spiritual, intellectual, cultural and physical needs, includingtoileting
  • Ensure compliance with the ECElicencing criteria, values as well as the legislative requirements of theorganisation
  • Ensure daily records are maintainedand contribute towards planning for the student
  • Work with wider staff across theorganisation ensuring the best outcomes for students
