In 2021 our People and Capability group went through a significant transformation process which resulted in an uplift in the investment in our people whilst challenging us to consider different ways of working.

Out of this transformation our Employee Experience team was created, and we are now looking for an experienced systems thinking leader to come on board and lead our Wellington based team.

In late 2021 we rolled out a digital platform for our staff to access several HR and Pay related key people requests and services.

The intent is for us to continue to build on this platform, both from a new build and continuous improvement perspective and our dedicated Employee Experience team is central to this.

As our Manager Employee Experience your focus will be on the end-to-end employee experience. You will also support and drive the continuous development and improvement of all our people systems related processes.

We are currently part way through phase 2 of our HR Service Improvement Project and together with a team of project resources, your combined efforts will ensure that key deliverables on this project are met.

This role is an exciting opportunity to continuously shift the way we work as we look to free up time spent on day-to-day transactional tasks that distract our amazing staff across the country from being able to focus on what matters most.


Key to success in this role will be your ability to:

  • Support strategic improvement plans using a system's thinking approach.
  • Understand demand on People & Capability services, understanding failure and value, while ensuring that we have clear plans for implementing continuous improvement.
  • Work alongside leadership and governance teams to prioritise improvement based on highest need
  • Create and maintain employee experience journey maps across the moments that matter for our workforce
  • Triage, qualify and allocate work to the team to ensure that our customer needs are met and opportunities to improve our systems and processes are captured and capitalised on
  • Work alongside a number of different teams within Ara Poutama Aotearoa such as finance, IT and Digital team to share thinking, test ideas and assess possibilities
  • Provide strong leadership and direction to the team while supporting a culture of operational and service excellence
  • Have experience or open to learning the agile way of working, and regularly review the project backlogs with the project team to ensure alignment with business priorities.
  • Ability to take in different perspectives and find common ground between various stakeholders to progress things in a timely manner.

Utu ā-tau | Salary

Range is 85% - 120%, with a midpoint of $129,519.00, please note, appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
