Job Description:


SGS Knowledge New Zealand (NZ) are looking for a qualified Forestry Auditor with Certification Audit experience and Forestry Auditor Qualifications to join our team.


  • Plan, conduct and report findings from FSC Chain of Custody and PEFC Forestry Management audits of SGS NZ Forestry, Timber and Paper industry sector Clients
  • Provide technical support and assistance with internal reviews and internal audit, as required
  • Maintain and develop knowledge and expertise and capabilities, as necessary for professional development and/or to expand capabilities as a Lead Auditor
  • Complete necessary documentation required by the FSC, PEFC and SGS Managing affiliates to sure that policies and procedures are followed and compliance KPI's are met
  • Prepare, review and upload the necessary Client information and audit documentation onto the appropriate data base(s)
  • Coordinate with and assist other forestry audit team members, including Contract Auditors, with undertaking audit activities
  • At all times, undertake activities professionally, with integrity and in accordance with the SGS Code of Conduct.
  • Provide support to SGS Forestry Program Manager and undertake reporting and administration, as required

Qualifications:

  • As a minimum, qualified as a FSC Chain of Custody Lead Auditor, with experience auditing for a Certification Body
  • Preferably, qualified as a PEFC Forestry Management Auditor, with experience auditing for a Certification Body
  • FSC Controlled Wood Lead Auditor qualifications and experience would also be advantageous.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Forestry and/or Forest Engineering are essential (eg. Degree or Diploma)
  • Forestry industry experience would need to meet SGS, FSC and/or PEFC auditor qualification requirements, as appropriate
  • Recognized (IRCA or equivalent) Lead Auditor training in management systems auditing is a requirement
  • Experience as Lead Auditor in conducting audits of other management systems (e.g. ISO 14001, ISO 19001, ISO would be advantageous, but is not essential.
  • Intermediate to advanced level Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel skills are necessary
  • Selfmanaging, with an ability to prioritize workload and delivery on Client and program expectations
  • A professional approach with a focus on delivering on Client expectations and meeting compliance performance measures.
  • Sound interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication sklls and a willingness to work as part of a team
Additional Information

This position involves travel within NZ, and on occasion to Australia and the Pacific Islands. Applicants must be prepared and willing to travel for work.

Applicants need to hold a current full NZ or international drivers license.


The base for the job is tentatively based in Christchurch NZ, as we would prefer to have a South-Island based Auditor.

An alternative location will be flexible working arrangements are negotiable and will be discussed during the interview process.
