This role is responding to the growing need for Mātauranga Māori in our community of employers and ākonga.

The Māori Education Team, Te Tari Mātauranga Māori (TTMM), have developed and delivered Mātauranga Māori training (on campus and on-line) for ākonga, businesses, organisations and communities and due to their success, we are seeking a full-time permanent Teacher to join the team and deliver training for 2023 and beyond.


We are seeking a collaborative team member with manaakitanga and knowledge for rewarding mahi that assists our to achieve their aspirations.

Reporting to Director Māori Education (DME), this role is replacing a long-serving team member.


As well as teaching, the Mātauranga Māori Kaiako you will support the DME and the TTMM Team, guiding and educating about Tikanga Māori processes as they happen on the marae and across the organisation.

You may the opportunity to develop programme material.

The role provides support across MIT when required including promoting the use of Te Reo Māori, developing understanding of Mātauranga Māori, working with Kaupapa Māori and supporting the provision of Tikanga Māori.

As well as teaching you will be networking with key stakeholders and assisting the DME with ensuring MIT's obligations, responsibilities and commitments to Te Tiriti o Waitangi are being met.


Ideally you will bring:

  • Confidence and experience in Te Reo, Tikanga & Mātauranga Māori
  • Passion to share your knowledge
  • Experience in teaching or training
  • Current Full New Zealand Driver's License
