Manukau, Auckland, New Zealand MEGA Full time

Head of Engineering

Location:
Auckland, or working remotely in New Zealand

Job Type:
Full time, Permanent

MEGA The Privacy Company provides global services from its Head Office in New Zealand.

Built with
Privacy by Design, MEGA provides a range of zero-knowledge encrypted cloud storage and communication solutions for individuals and businesses.

We launched in 2013 and have grown to an international team of more than 200 people who are motivated by next-generation technology and design, supporting over 280 million registered users on our website, desktop and mobile apps across all major platforms.

Our workforce and userbase are growing day by day, and we are preparing for the release of several landmark products and feature updates in the short-term future.

We are looking to hire an ambitious technical leader to support this success, driving and further developing a high-performance engineering team dedicated to the development and optimisation of MEGA.

About the role

As our Head of Engineering you report directly to our CTO and will be responsible for our entire engineering department.

You will be overseeing a team of Engineering Managers and you will work directly with senior leadership to oversee software development and engineering across the entire company.

You will have the vision, agility, and experience to:

  • Support and manage software Engineering Managers and their teams to build, design and deliver exceptional quality products.
  • Establish and drive best development practices and processes and their coordination across platform departments.
  • Lead the engineering teams to build world class technical infrastructure including scalable and maintainable software architectures and the adoption of new technologies.
  • Work with Engineering Managers to manage and prioritise engineering backlogs, and advocate and advise on technical roadmaps to ensure a strategic and sustainable product delivery.
  • Ensure comprehensive documentation to clearly communicate processes, practices, guidelines and solutions.
  • Cultivate a motivating and inspiring culture that brings the engineering department together in the pursuit of delivery, quality, innovation, and learning.
  • Be the escalation point for critical decisionmaking within engineering, such as the selection of new technologies, architectural approaches, and evaluating risks and tradeoffs for engineering projects.
  • Ensure the continued high performance of MEGA's engineers at the personal and team level through goalsetting, review, and collaboration with Engineering Managers.
Furthermore, you will make an impact on the organisation by:

  • Working closely with our Product team to provide technical insights to aid the development of product delivery plans
  • Encouraging and leading collaboration with teams outside of engineering to remove frictions, ensuring high efficiency of the entire organisation and maximising business values
  • Managing resourcing of engineering teams in consultation with engineering leads, product managers and our agile facilitators to ensure adequate supply to meet business, engineering and product goals.
  • Being accountable for the implementation and successful execution of the engineering department aspects of the business plan, providing regular updates and reports to the CTO, SLT and other stakeholders.

About you

Self-motivated, disciplined, analytical, and an excellent communicator, you're a technical leader with a passion for the industry and a keen awareness of the latest trends, technologies, and approaches.

You demonstrate MEGA's values by taking ownership of your work and pursuing continuous improvement.

An effective, organised leader, you will:

  • Successfully manage large teams to achieve set outcomes
  • Take ownership of projects, strategically delegating tasks to produce demonstrable results.
  • Foresee potential problems and holistically identify their solutions.
  • Be responsible for creating workflow policy improvements and suggesting these to the Executive team.
  • Strive for continuous reflection and improvement of work processes
  • Be intimately familiar with Agile ways of working
  • Push relentlessly for efficient delivery
  • Collaborate constructively with project stakeholders and Product Managers to bring about necessary outcomes.

What MEGA offers

Along with a flexible working policy, a deliberate culture of internal development, and top-of-the-line tools, you will enjoy a competitive remuneration package.

This is a stable role within a growth industry, offering the opportunity to work as a part of an elite, well-resourced, global team.

With attentive leadership and an emphasis on innovation, you'll grow alongside MEGA as we continue to cement our industry-leading position.
