We have a full-time permanent opportunity for a Forensic Scientist to join our Christchurch Forensic Service Centre at our Christchurch Science Centre.

You'll be responsible for providing technical assistance to Forensic Senior Scientists at crime scenes and in the examination of items for forensic purposes.

You'll also have the opportunity to manage small cases, including certain sexual assault cases which will require you to liaise with clients, write reports, provide technical review and appear in court to present opinion evidence as required.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A relevant postgraduate qualification in science,
  • A full NZ Driver's licence
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety practices, biological and chemical hazards,
  • Demonstrated work experience and demonstrated ability to work independently across a range of technical duties.
  • Ability to plan, collect data, analyse, and report results for specific areas of work.
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills.
  • Problemsolving ability, particularly in relation to science methods
  • Ambition and longterm plans for advancement of your forensic career.


Please note that you will be expected to participate in an on-call scene roster within the team as required, which will require you to travel primarily around the South Island at short notice.
