We are seeking Registered and Enrolled Nurses who would like to join the Nursing team at Burwood Hospital. There are multiple opportunities available for permanent full time, part time, fixed term and casual.

On offer is a wide range of clinical environments to keep you interested whether you prefer the variety of working on the nursing pool or the stability of a permanent placement within a ward, we have the right options for you.


  • Older Persons Health 6 wards including two specialist wards stroke and orthopaedic rehabilitation
  • Older Persons Mental Health two wards
  • Spinal Injuries Unit, including a transitional rehabilitation unit and a urodynamics service
  • Under 6 s Neurological Rehabilitation Unit,
  • Surgical Orthopaedic Unit.

To be successful in this role you will be a Registered or Enrolled nurse with a current annual practicing certificate - if you have an interest in Mental Health we require a Mental Health Scope of practice and ideally experience working within Mental Health however this is not essential.

As the role of a nurse can be quite demanding your ability to work under pressure will be desirable but in return for your hard work you will be rewarded with supportive leadership and the opportunity to learn from our multidisciplinary team as you work closely alongside other healthcare professionals.

  • Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand, with current APC
  • A Mental Health scope of Practice for Older Persons Mental Health roles
  • Be a confident practitioner with good patient assessment skills
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage a wide variety of people
  • Knowledge of and a commitment to Te Tiriti O Waitangi

Burwood Hospital is a close-knit, friendly facility that forms part of Te Whatu Ora - Waitaha [Canterbury] situated near Burwood Forest on the outskirts of Christchurch Central.

Along with 11 inpatient wards, we also have a busy Out Patient Department; 4 theatres with an Admitting Unit and PACU.

Our Spinal Unit is one of two located in New Zealand and between the two busy units deliver a National Service.
